Behind the Scenes: Building GAM’s 3D Sparkle Letters

At PacPrint 2025, our biggest trade show yet, we wanted something that would really stop people in their tracks. The result? Oversized custom made ‘GAM’ 3D letters, built completely in-house by our talented Technical Specialist, Brenden Watson. Using Aslan 123 Black Sparkle, PVC sheets, and Gold Mirror Acrylic, the finished letters became a standout feature on our stand.

At Graphic Art Mart, we’re all about attention to detail and showcasing our products in the best way possible. Brenden engineered these letters combining technical skill with creativity to create bold signage that truly ‘sparkled’ under the lights. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how it all came together.

Step 1: Designing the Letters

Everything started in the design phase – where precision is crucial.

• The GAM logo was scaled to size.
• Text was converted to outlines, and rounded edges were flattened.
• Paths were offset twice — once for the channel inset and once for thickness.
• The final design was saved in CNC-friendly formats (EPS works best before converting to DXF).
• This step made sure the design was accurate and production-ready.

Step 2: Cutting the Materials

Next up, getting the pieces ready.

• The CNC router table was prepped with the right tools, depth, and speed.
• PVC sheets were cut into the front and rear panels.
• Gold Mirror Acrylic was routed to create the returns (the sides that join the panels).
• Every piece had to be precise so they would fit together seamlessly,  like a puzzle.

  Step 3: Assembly & Detailing

This is where the letters started to take shape.

• PVC and acrylic edges were sanded and cleaned.
• Acrylic returns were measured, cut, and inserted into the PVC channels (larger returns first, then smaller ones).
• A set square made sure everything sat at a perfect 90°.
• Once test fitting was complete, Weldon 16 acrylic glue was applied to bond it all together.
• After curing for 24 hours, the finishing touch was added: wrapping the faces with Aslan 123 Black Sparkle vinyl. The protective capping sheet stayed on until the letters arrived at PacPrint, this allowed the oversized letters to arrive without any scratches and also creating a dramatic peel and reveal moment at the show.

Step 4: Installation on the Stand

Finally, the letters were mounted.

• Each one was placed onto posts pre-built into the MDF stand.
• Screws locked them securely in place.
• The capping sheets were removed to reveal that stunning glitter effect.

From file prep to glitter finish, the GAM 3D letters were a true showcase of what can be achieved with the right mix of creativity and premium materials. Bold, eye catching, and built to last, they stole the spotlight at PacPrint 2025 and showed off exactly what our products can do.
